Eelpout Festival
28th Annual - February 15-17, 2008

A Northwoods tradition and a true display of rugged sportsmanship on Leech Lake, much more than a fishing contest!

The Eelpout, related to the cod, but lacking in the "looks" department are native and abundant in Leech Lake. Rarely seen in the summer months, preferring the cold waters in the deepest parts of the lake, the eelpout move toward the surface as the ice covers the lake and make for a great day of ice fishing.

The Eelpout Festival is much more than a fishing competition, events include:

  • Opening Ceremony

  • Contest for the Best Eelpout Encampment

  • 5k Race

  • Polar Plunge

  • Eelpout Bowl Rugby match

  • Snowmobile Radar Run

  • Awards Ceremony
