In its day, Minnesota's Leech Lake was known as a sportsman’s paradise. Families and friends have long gathered here to hunt ducks, geese, and partridge and to fish for Minnesota’s famed walleye and elusive Muskie. It wasn’t whether the event was successful or not, it was the gathering of family and friends that created the memories and traditions that endure today.
Today, the Leech Lake area has evolved into a broadly defined family gathering destination. Our goal at Trapper’s Landing Lodge is not to replace our historical roots, but to expand them. Once home to Merit Lodge, one of the Northwood's’ favorite resorts, this special lakeside location will emerge as one of the finest vacation areas in the Midwest.
Of course, critical to the lake experience is a beautiful resort site. And that we have… Trapper’s Landing Lodge is located on over 1,600 feet of Leech Lake shoreline and contains one of the few sandy beaches on the entire lake. Over 75 percent of Leech Lake is within the boundaries of the Chippewa National Forest, leaving only 25 percent of the lakefront for private ownership. Thus, the legacy of miles and miles of untouched shoreline will remain..
