Snomobiling

Minnesota Snowmobiling

Trapper's Landing Lodge is located in the middle of what may be the best snowmobile terrain and trail system in Northern America. You won't lack for adventure surrounded by the Chippewa National Forest, which contains 300 miles of trails, including the 23 mile Chipp Connector which runs parallel to Hwy 200 between Walker and Longville.

Heartland Trail
Once in Walker, you can hook up to the Heartland Trail which runs south 30 miles to Park Rapids and north 19 miles to Cass Lake. This trail is a local favorite, groomed for snowmobiling, and running through the northwood forests, lakes (including Leech Lake), it provides stunning and endless vistas.

Paul Bunyan and Soo Line Trails
You can also meet up with the Paul Bunyan Trail to take you to Brainerd or Bemedji. This 100 mile recreational-use trail is for non-motorized use, except for snowmobiles.  It can be accessed from the Trapper's Landing Lodge Chipp Connector Trail and passes along the shores of 21 lakes, bridges and crosses many streams and rivers, offering miles of scenic wetlands.  You'll find plenty of opportunity to gas up and eat in the many towns it runs through, like Pequot Lakes, Pine River, Backus and Walker.  The Soo Line Trail is the longest motorized recreation trail in MN and runs from Cass Lake to Moose Lake... And if you want to keep on going all the way to Canada - by all means, there are trails that will take you there.

Who needs a trial when you have Leech Lake!
You can travel hundreds of miles from your accommodations at Trapper's Landing Lodge to many different destinations in Northern Minnesota - however, you may choose to skip the trails and play on our 184 square-mile snowmobile arena known as Leech Lake.  There's nothing like having a place to snowmobile where there's not a tree, car or ditch for miles, so you can easily open it up and let 'er rip.  Just watch out for the occasional ice-house!

Add a little flavor to your ride...
When you work up an appetite out on the lake - there's no need to head for home, you can just point your snowmobile across the lake to find a number of restaurants.  Stop at Benson's for pizza and a cold draft, or Zona Rosa's for the best Mexican food in the northwoods. If you're a more finicky gourmand, four miles north of Walker, you'll find The Boulders.  At Charlie's Up North, at the junction of Hwys 200 and 371, you'll find a Chinese food-chef in on Tuesdays and Thursdays, if you're looking for some more exotic flavor.  Bring your own fortune cookie, but not your own libations: Charlie's is a happening bar scene too! Also check out Village Square for pizza, pasta, ice cream and specialty coffee.
